It does bring up the idea of a "push notification." If you have several mail servers
spread out over the world, you could have them check periodically in their respective
database.XY.clamav.net domains.
If any one of them found an updated definition file, they could scp it to all the
other servers. (Or use some other message-based notification.)
Or you could do something totally wild...
Perhaps a phone-tree-like system could be developed? Where a central clamav server
cluster "calls" five other servers... then each of those five call five other servers,
etc, until every interested party has received a call?
Servers could be moved closer-to-the-hub based on proven reliability. Each server
could also be placed in two different places just in case one phone-tree member is
negligent. The system is divided into five branches at the first step... servers
should be placed in two different branches, in the rare event of a first-hop caller
going down.
Just a wild idea. The DNS thing works great.
