For a number of reasons you should not depend upon the installation process to over-write your old files. This problem is not specific to ClamAV (it is a problem with ClamAV though). It is just a very good best practice to manage your installations yourself. Or at least install then verify. In Solaris, echo $PATH, ldd, and crle are your friends.
