Look into "man clamd.conf" :
ScanRAR
Enable scanning of RAR archives. Due to license issues
libclamav does not support RAR 3.0 archives (only the old
2.0 format is supported). Because some users report sta-
bility problems with unrarlib it's disabled by default
and must be enabled in the config file.
Default: disabled
There will be full suport for RAR archives in a future version. With the
current version you can only have full support if you use clamscan with an
external program (option --unrar[=FULLPATH]), clamdscan does not have this
option.
I'm leaving out a lot of information and alternatives, but this may answer your
question.
