This problem depends upon the specific OS & package mechanism being used and requires solutions like a postinstall or postupgrade script to automaticly restart the freshclam daemon.


Ahhh, I see.  Strangely enough I noticed the ports of FreeBSD started
doing this.  It used to try to stop the clamd and freshclam processes
while updating.  Not sure when this changed though.
