clamdscan is somewhat more efficient than clamscan, so clamdscan is therefore generally preferred.
However, note that clamdscan works using the permissions that the clamd daemon runs as (commonly a "clamd" user), which means that clamdscan may not be able to read all files, whereas a clamscan as root will be able to read everything...
