The ":AvO8Yh[...]" appears to be the digital signature of the update. I ungzipped the gzipped portion of the file and it has 41 lines.

Mine is quite an old system (Mandrake Linux 8.2). I was wondering if anyone else has encountered this error.

The current code requires a newer zlib. I will fix this issue in one of the
upcoming RCs.

I've already fixed it locally and submitted a patch in bug #76. I've tested it with sigtool --verify-cdiff. I'm just waiting for the next cdiff file to come in to test it with freshclam.
