One update -- I checked the clamd.log file and the following entry appeared in the file numerous times:

Fri Jun 22 10:43:29 2007 -> Reading databases from /var/lib/clamav Fri Jun 22 10:43:52 2007 -> ERROR: Broken or not a CVD file How can I correct this?
