Two comments:

1) You're taking a very negative view, almost as if you're starting to
stir up a flamewar
2) Nothing is forever - while ClamAV may not have been for sale then,
things have obviously changed for those involved.  If you feel
differently then maybe you should have worked with them to create
ClamAV - only then do you have a reasonable position to argue from.

Me, I'm happy to sit and see.  Snort is owned by the same company as
has bought ClamAV and I've no complaints from the way Snort is treated
by them.  Sure, it would be nice to get their Snort signatures
immediately, for free - but lots of people's time and effort has gone
into them, it's only reasonable they get the chance of some return -
it's not like there's a shortage of free alternative signatures.
