Eggert,
You should update your clam AV version soon after a release, regardless or you
run the risk it not protecting you. There are numerous reasons why this
is so.
I usually give a release a couple weeks to 'bake out', so to speak, so that any
issues that might not have been exposed in release candidate testing
have a chance to be found. This has proven somewhat prescient.
In any case 0.90.1 is positively ancient by anyone's standards and you should
update.

Ok, I found it. There exists a bug in clamav 0.90.1 (did not find a bug
number, only some comments in the web) that makes it take very long to build
the socket. After some 15 minutes after restart of the clamd it works. This
old version is provided by Debian Etch, should I switch to a new version?
