Hello - I'm new to this list and I'd appreciate your input on clamav
configuration.

I'm running Fedora Core 8, and ClamAV 0.92.1/5777.

I have these packages (no clamav-server):
   clamav-lib-0.92.1-2.fc8
   clamav-filesystem-0.92.1-2.fc8
   clamav-update-0.92.1-2.fc8
   clamav-0.92.1-2.fc8
   clamav-data-0.92.1-2.fc8

I ran freshclam to update defs with no problem as logged in
the /var/log/freshclam.log

The client clamscan seems to run fine, but complains of not
finding /etc/clamd.conf, which makes sense since I do not have
the clamav-server installed. So I did "touch /etc/clamd.conf" and
get a warning (I suspect means nothing):

$ /usr/bin/clamdscan /scratch/mydir
WARNING: Clamd is not configured properly.
----------- SCAN SUMMARY -----------
Infected files: 0
Time: 0.021 sec (0 m 0 s)

So it appears the client does not need the presence of a clamav-server
and its /etc/clamd.conf to run and scan targets. This suggest that one
can manually scan and simply put that line in a cron job --Is this
rationale correct?

Then the clamav-server is simply to have clamd doing scans
in real-time 24x7 -- is this correct?

thanks!
~Aldo.
