could be the same pb as me => on debian etch clamav 0.90 to 0.93
(volatile project) :
clamd takes some long minutes to load the viral base after an incomplete
update and during this time the clamd socket is not created :
I ve fixed the pb (after a little mail here).
=> try uninstall clamav libclamav2 clamav-daemon and reinstall clamav
stuff => you got a libclamav4...
