If this were on the development list I'd agree.  But as it's on the
user's list, and as there are by now potentially thousands of users
who either depend on particular features being as they have been for a
while, or who would have to do some work to get things back to working
the way they want them to work if the user-visible interface changes
in some small way, then I'll just say

Oh, no, not again!  Please!  No!

If people feel strongly about their logs (this is a Good Thing) then I
recommend syslog-ng.  Without it, I would be buried in data devoid of
useful information and very probably I would miss most of the important
things that my logs have to say to me.
