freshclam tries to load the database each time, and then frees it (in 0.96.1). I don't see anything wrong with the code, but that doesn't mean its bug free. Could you tell me when you started freshclam the first time (date/time, or CVD version when you started), and your clamconf output? I can try to replay the updates and see if any of them causes a memory leak.
