That sounded logical.  Unfortunately it doesn't seem to cure the problem.  
Let's check the command first.  I'm using

/usr/bin/clamscan -ri /home/ --exclude=.kde/share/apps/kmail/imap/

When that still gave me the error message I added /home/anne/ to the path - 
thinking that even though it is a run-as-anne job, maybe it still needed the 
full path.  Unfortunately, that still shows the two files as 'infected'.

It was certainly worth a try, but it hasn't solved the problem.
