This looks like another case where scanning only files that are new or changed
from the previous scan would be prudent. For that you have tools like Tripwire
that look for changed files. I used to have to scan a petabyte storage array
farm and without the advantage of tripwire, a very lightweight process, it would
have been impossible. It is still impossible to do it in one pass/day, but you
can get it done eventually far more efficiently with multiple tools working
together.
