Greetings, I'm choosing an anti-virus solution for my latest project and I'm considering ClamAV.
In my view, ClamAV has a lot of appeal: 1. Easy to install 2. Included in most Linux distro's 3. Free and Open Source However, A cursory survey of published AV comparisons shows ClamAV being outperformed by a lot of other (commercial) products. In particular, I'm talking about articles like this one from 2 years ago: http://www.csoonline.com/article/2989137/linux/av-test-lab-tests-16-linux-antivirus-products-against-windows-and-linux-malware.html Or AV comparison sites like this: https://www.shadowserver.org/wiki/pmwiki.php/AV/VirusDailyStats In terms of efficacy, these comparisons seem to rank ClamAV very poorly. :( I'm curious if anyone knows the reason why? Are these tests conducted fairly? Do the commercial products - like Sophos or BitDefender - have better virus definitions? Just curious if anyone knows. Thanks!
