Dear clapf-users,

I have just finalised the 0.4.4 version.

Webui changes:

- added search/filter to the history
- PHP 5.3.x is supported
- ham messages are visible, too
- the master admin may train the global database
- quarantine metadata are stored in and SQLite3 db in the per user
quarantine directory
- display the message size, and a colour code (green=ham, red=spam)
- added a 'Help' menu pointing to the online docs
- user preferences are stored permanently in an sqlite3 database
- you may set an order to the user listing by uid, username, domain
- many more smaller fixes

clapf related changes:

- clapf builds on Solaris as well
- clapf has fewer command line options, instead of defining an uid and gid, set 'username' in clapf.conf

- spamdrop does not add the extra \r\n.\r\n after the email any longer, and it uses '\n' instead of '\r\n'

Gabor has introduced his spamdrop_helper utility, you may find it in the
contrib directory.

If you have Debian, you may be interested in the binary packages
Christoph and Gerry provide (note: they do it separetely from each
other), see the download links. Hopefully they will update to the stable
0.4.4 as well :-)

Important! Since the webui can display the ham messages, please make
sure that your users only train the mistakes. If one of your users
thinks that 'ok, here's a ham message, and I train it in the webui, and
make sure it will be a *stronger* ham', it produces completely the
opposite result. So please train only the spam categorisation errors,
and never the correctly recognised messages.

What next? The development never stops, and in the meantime I have
finished adding memcached support (it's not part of the 0.4.4 release as
I didn't want to introduce a recently born feature, however it's
available in the nightly release). It's able to put user and policy data
to a memcached server thus taking off some load of your database or even
your LDAP server.

I also heard about some new and interesting clapf related initiatives.
We may expect a roundcube plugin/theme to let users access the webui
through a (native?) roundcube interface. If you like Plesk, then you may
like Scott's work (status: in progress), he's integrating clapf with
Plesk.

I encourage you to use the JIRA issue tracker
(https://jira.acts.hu:8443/) if you discover any bug. Don't worry about
creating an issue, as it's not my purpose to show the world that 'you
see? clapf is perfect since there not a single issue in the tracker',
but rather to show that we find bugs, and they are being fixed.

I also wrote a performance tuning howto
(http://clapf.acts.hu/wiki/doku.php/howto:performancetuning). If you
have your own tip, be sure to add to it.

Best regards,
Janos
