sorry, I must have missed that, as I did not watch changes to the generics
branch closely. Should I change the patch to only document the fields that
are currently in main to simplify a merge with generics ? Or do you have
another suggestion ?

Hm, I don't know that, but AFAIK this tag is not written to the
serialization stream, but intended for extensions, which could use tag
values from TC_MAX + 1 onwards.
Still, I'd also appreciate a knowledge based (as opposed to my guesswork ;)
opinion on this.
