We've got some dependency problems with Jikes as well. (Maybe I'll try the
jikes dependency generation instead of JavaDeps and see if that fixes
things). You have to type "make" three times before it gets all the way
through.
Jikes+Japhar+Classpath would be close to a complete free software Java
environment. A good, free Java debugger and miscellaneous utilities are
still needed as far as I can tell.

Kaffe has their own partial library as well. I don't think now is the time
to start worrying about Kaffe support in Classpath.
