You da boss :) I was uncomfortable with it, too, but Chris said Lesstif was
using internal vars OK.
String was going to be a really ugly change anyway.
It turns out that if we don't change String, and with the addition of native
state, we don't have to change *anything* to use internal fields. I'll get
around to changing Throwable back to using message instead of detailMessage
now that Japhar calls getMessage().
