AWT Status

     I am afraid I really don't understand the AWT situation to date.
     Apparently, as I understand it, Doug South is working on GAWT, a native
AWT library, and he is working on AWT proper as a secondary project.
     Is that the case?
     Do we have any other members with a decent knowledge of AWT
programming?  (Not necessarily *creating* an AWT, but at least using it
pretty extensively?)
