Hi, An article on the "Java Wars" appeared on Inforworld recently (http://www.infoworld.com/articles/op/xml/00/06/05/000605opvizard.xml). You may have read it. It talks about the dangers to Java from Sun's attempts to control it. I wrote to the author informing him about the Classpath project, the Japhar JVM and the Kopi compiler, so that his article could highlight these positive efforts as well, and he has responded asking for more details about Classpath to feed into another article. Would you like to take this up so that other people can understand the work you are doing? Thanks and regards, Ganesh Prasad
Point taken! Check in with Ted Bowen and we'll see about trying to do some kind of follow up news story based on where you folks are in this effort Ganesh and Sashikala Prasad <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> on 06/17/2000 03:57:12 AM Please respond to [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] cc: Subject: The Java wars Hi, Your article on the Java wars was very good and highlighted the most important issue facing the Java community today, namely the suspicion of many about Sun's real intentions. But it stopped short of recommending the obvious solution, or pointing to such an initiative - an Open Source implementation of the Java compiler, Java Virtual Machine and the Java class libraries. Such products exist and are close to completion. We have the Kopi compiler, the Japhar virtual machine, and the GNU Classpath project that is writing free versions of the Java class libraries. We will have an implementation of Java that is not controlled by Sun, after all. This deserves to be highlighted in your article. Thanks and regards, Ganesh Prasad
