It has a sort of revisionist quality to it -- namely, nobody who worked on the libgcj AWT implementation was aware of this at the time. So even if his position is legally correct, morally it can't be. IMHO of course. Certainly if I had known he was planning to GPL this code, I would never have assigned it to the FSF.
