Hi, I've foud a project called KJC, which is a set of AWT components that were designed to bring Swing-like abilities to applets. It doesn't seems to be maintained any more, but the license is "open" and perhaps the author could give it to the FSF ?
I haven't looked at the source but we could perhaps find some usefull stuff ?
