If you take all the SpringLayout examples at
http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/layout/example-1dot4/index.html#SpringDemo3
and build them against gcj they won't behave the same as with sunjava. Our
springlayout implementation is only partial. Attached is a (I think) full
implementation, it gives the same layout results for all the tutorial examples
as does the Sun one
