Tested it again. Works, only one typo:

Should be:
>$ curl 
>ftp://ftp.cs.ru.nl/pub/Clean/builds/macos-x64/clean-classic-macos-x64-latest.tgz
> | tar -x

Because wget was not on the machine and should be issued with -O- in this 
setting.
