I have run it on a VM  based linux box. Getting the initial install to
run took a bit, but it runs fine.
I have had no issues. There are even people running Clean Access Servers
(CAS) on VMs. Considering what
The CAS does to Ethernet that amazes (and frightens) me, but they say it
works fine. 

Cisco MOST EMPHATICALLY does NOT support it. So, if you have them remote
to your CAM while running on a VM it is
Wise not to mention that. I'm just saying that as an observation, I am
not admitting to how anything runs at my site. 

BTW, even though they don't support it, Cisco training material, and
Cisco approved training material uses VMs.
