Subject: NAC 4.6

Here is a quickie on what I've seen in 4.6 so far. I was in a new install for
customer this week so was able to go straight to 4.6 today when the release
occurred. The NAM/CAM seems exactly identical to the 4.5.x releases. I really
see no changes in functionality in the GUI and all the timers/filter settings
all seem the same. The only difference I have noticed so far is the agent
itself. In the NAM you can now specify an XML file which is used to identify
configuration parameters when the agent is installed. These settings identify
the discovery host and registry parameters we've configured by hand in the
past. I had to pull the xml config file and the agent off the NAM using SCP
since the web interface wants to install the client outright and not allow the
option to save to the local PC (tried in IE and Firefox and may have just
overlooked something). Anyway, the agent itself is in fact running as a service
and the interface is re-skinned. I did upgrade the HA NAMs and HA NASs without
any issues and the database upgraded without any issues as well.

Reading the release notes (found here:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/nac/appliance/release_notes/461/461rn.html
) it looks like UAC is now supported:
Selective Application Privilege Support for Windows Operating Systems
In Cisco NAC Appliance Release 4.6(1), to more effectively integrate with the
Windows Vista operating system, different functional elements of Cisco NAC
Agent have different privilege levels to support Windows Vista User Account
Control (UAC).

Thanks
Jim
