Things that existing only at the IP layer -- such as vni, loopback, and IPMP group interfaces -- are not driven by the of any underlying link. These names may silently conflict with link names that exist but are not plumbed. Again, I see this as a natural consequence of having distinct layers with distinct namespaces. -- meem
