Amit,

It's good to hear from you.

In answer to your questions...

1. We haven't tested bono with any other registrars, but there's a good chance
it should work. The most likely problems will be with SIP interop, e.g. other
registrars might not honor the Path header correctly. In terms of
installation, just follow the standard manual install process
(https://github.com/Metaswitch/clearwater-docs/wiki/Manual%20Install), but only
for the bono node (not for sprout, homer, homestead or ellis). When creating
/etc/clearwater/config
(https://github.com/Metaswitch/clearwater-docs/wiki/Manual%20Install#configuring-the-inter-node-hostnamesip-addresses),
set sprout_hostname to point to your registrar. Please let us know how your
get on.

2. No, unfortunately you can't call from Chrome to X-Lite. The problem here is
the media - Chrome implements WebRTC which mandates RTP/SAVPF while softphones
(including X-Lite) generally implement RTP/AVP. Clearwater doesn't have any
function to translate between these RTP profiles. There was previously a post
on the mailing list
(http://lists.projectclearwater.org/pipermail/clearwater/2013-June/000059.html)
suggesting that Boghe (https://code.google.com/p/boghe/) might be a softphone
that supported RTP/SAVPF, but unfortunately we didn't have any luck getting
that to work with Google Chrome. Alternatively, you could try using an
external component to translate between RTP/SAVPF and RTP/AVP - the webrtc2sip
project has an RTCWeb Breaker component (http://webrtc2sip.org/#aRTCWebBreaker)
that might do what you need, but we haven't tested with this.

I hope that helps - please let me know if you have any further questions.

BTW, I notice that you're not subscribed to the mailing list - it's probably
worth subscribing, if only to keep up with any similar problems that other
people are hitting.

Thanks,

Matt

Subject: [Clearwater] Questions related to Bono and Sprout

Hi
            I have two basic questions.
            1. Can Bono be installed in standalone mode on a linux machine and
then be used to send SIP messages like REGISTER and INVITE to some other
Registar Entity (not Sprout).
            2. Can we make a call from Chrome to x-lite? Means can we have a
call between a webrtc client (like SIPML5) and legacy sip client like x-lite or
Bria

Regards
Amit Bhagra
