Homer only implements a subset of the XDMS specification – see 
https://github.com/Metaswitch/crest/blob/dev/docs/homer_features.md for the 
details of what isn’t covered.

In particular, Homer doesn’t support any authentication of the HTTP request; in 
a typical deployment, Homer should be configured so that it only accepts 
requests from the Sprout nodes.
While clearwater doesn’t distinguish between the source of the HTTP requests, 
to use your XCAP client you’ll need to allow Homer to accept requests from it 
(on 7888). This presents a security risk as no authentication will be done on 
the requests from this client, or any other clients that can also connect (see 
https://github.com/Metaswitch/crest/blob/dev/docs/homer_features.md#authentication
 for more details).

Also, Homer doesn’t support partial updates – if you want to update the 
simservs XML then you’ll need to send the complete document again.

Thanks a lot for the information. I am indeed able to PUT, DELETE and GET using 
CURL. Greatly appreciated.

I have two questions here:

a) If using cURL the PUT, GET, DELETE operations could be performed then it 
could also be performed by a client which produces an equivalent HTTP Method, 
isnt it? What I mean to crosscheck with you is that say if I dont use curl and 
instead use my XCAP client to generate PUT/DELETE/GET, adhering to the 3gpp 
standards, towards the Clearwater then it would also be allowed right? 
Clearwater doesnt distinguish between HTTP request coming using CURL or via 
some other XCAP cleint originating a XCAP request. Does it?

b) Also, as we all know, an XCAP request may update only a particular chunk of 
xml (say a particular rule of Communication DIversion) instead of sending the 
complete simservs XML over and over again.

(As shown in 3gpp doc 24604, TABLE A.1.7.7 where it uses the node seperator(~~) 
to achieve it). (Also, on RFC 4825 page 30 we can see how is it done for 
RLS-services where it shows a PUT updating a particular section)

So, this update for a particular rule, is it possible with clearwater? Can you 
please confirm? If yes, can you also suggest the equivalent cURL notation for 
say updating a rule named "rule0". I used the below mentioned expression but it
didnt work with cURL.

The error message you've seen looks to me like Chrome has received the XML, but 
doesn't know how to parse it. As a check, can you look at the source (hit F12 
and look at the Elements tab) and see if the XML has been received?

Alternatively you can use CURL  - you can run 'curl 
http://10.112.77.143:7888/org.etsi.ngn.simservs/users/sip:[email protected]/simservs.xml'
 on the homer node and this will return the XML. You can also use this (or your 
XML client) for the PUTs and DELETEs (e.g. curl -X "DELETE" 
http://10.112.77.143:7888/org.etsi.ngn.simservs/users/sip:[email protected]/simservs.xml).
