Hi Khalid,

We have tested with IMSBench in the past, so I think we should be able to get
this working.

Looking at the information that you sent in your email, it looks like your SIP
URIs don’t match – the bulk-provisioning is with 700000 but the IMS Bench input
file is 7000000. This may be the cause of the 403.

You should also be careful if you are using a Project Clearwater all-in-one
image. The all-in-one node isn't really built for performance - it's just built
to pack everything onto as small a node as possible - you may hit performance
issues that you wouldn't hit on a full deployment.

When we tested before, we hit an issue with IMSBench’s TCP support. Matt
Williams dug out his notes from the time:

The IMSBench tests require some special behavior from the implementation under
test if using TCP transport. Specifically REGISTER requests from IMSBench
specify a port number of 7001 in the Contact header, but the scripts then
expect INVITE or MESSAGE requests on port 7000. (We believe this behavior is
required to work around a limitation of SIPp where a single script must either
act as a UAC or a UAS, so you cannot write a script that issues a REGISTER then
wait for an incoming INVITE or MESSAGE. IMSBench has therefore separated these
two phases in to different scripts which cannot share the same port number.)

The work-around for this (dating back to 2013) is at
https://github.com/Metaswitch/sprout/tree/imsbench-interop (and doesn't
currently merge). UDP transport might be a better bet, although I don't know
whether we tested that.

I hope that helps.

Yours,

Chris

Subject: [Project Clearwater] clearwater benchmark with ims bench sipp

Hi All,

I'm trying to benchmark a all in one clearwater with ims bench sipp. Has anyone
tried something like this? I need a bit of help about the whole thing specially
regarding the scenario files used by ims bench. I have tried to run the
benchmark with the default scenario files generated by ims bench but the test
fails. Do I need to change the default scenario files for clearwater in some
specific way? I have bulk provisioned 4000 subscribers
([email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> -
[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>) and checked they exist in
homestead and made a test call with one of the subscriber. The format of the
generated users.csv file for bulk subscriber in clearwater is:

sip:[email protected]<mailto:sip%[email protected]>,[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>,example.com<http://example.com>,7kkzTyGW
sip:[email protected]<mailto:sip%[email protected]>,[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>,example.com<http://example.com>,7kkzTyGW
...

The format of the user input file for ims bench is like following:

0;7000000;example.com<http://example.com>;7000000;example.com<http://example.com>;7kkzTyGW
0;7000001;example.com<http://example.com>;7000001;example.com<http://example.com>;7kkzTyGW

...
...

I tried only with the registration scenario but it fails. The error log in ims
bench looks like:

2016-05-27 02:31:21.116:
C:'[email protected]<mailto:C%3A%[email protected]>'
UNEXP-Jump(2) L=9 expecting '401' rsp, rcv 'SIP/2.0 403 Forbidden

I have also attached the registration scenario file that I'm using. It would be
nice if someone knows something or did a similar test before please let me
know. It would be nice if you can guide me a bit or share a sample scenario
file that would with clearwater and ims bench.

Thanks all in advance.

Best,
Khalid
