A simple way around that is to do a little re-tagging using both the "Artist" and "Album Artist" tags. For most albums these two fields will be the same. However, for compilations, the Album Artist tag will match the album name or compilation name. Then simply sorting your list by AlbumArtist first and Year second solves the issue.
