May have solved the "Device in use" error! Turns out that configuring any audio service manually to use alsa and specifying the alsa device, e.g., "hw:1,0" will LOCK the audio device for use by any other audio service/application. Thus I cannot configure squeezelite to use "front:CARD=PCH,DEV=0", which is HDA Intel PCH, ALC662 rev3 Analog - Front speakers, and also attempt to configure Clementine in its configuration file to use alsasink and device="hw:1,0" -- Clementine will throw that "Device in use" error if I start squeezelite first. If I start Clementine first, then I cannot start squeezelite and it throws the same error (which was the clue that led me to figuring this issue out). This also affects the other audio application I use, fluidsynth. This is probably why pulseaudio was developed (??). Because I can configure squeezelite to use "front:CARD=PCH,DEV=0" (to use alsa) and Clementine and fluidsynth to use pulseaudio and all will start. Except both Clementine and fluidsynth have hiccups :-/ Which points to pulseaudio as the probably culprit. But I'm exhausted in this continuing saga.
