I have suffered the usual problems with freezing and high CPU use. I have tried disabling everything that could be responsible (or at leas t I think I have) e.g. mood, etc. I have enabled fading, and fixed the sample rate, and I have not had a freeze since, however, I am still seeing 99% CPU whenever I start playing a saved pod-cast, or reposition the playback position using the slider. After a while, CPU use drops to a few percent. (Playing with the slider used to cause a freeze up with max CPU, and required a process kill in task manager)
After some experimenting, I discovered that the busy time is directly related to the how far into the file the slider in moved, e.g. 60 seconds at the start, 30 seconds at 1/2 way, etc.. A smaller MP3 has proportionally smaller busy times. I also noticed that memory use drops when I touch the slider, and rises gradually during the busy time. I have tried varying the buffer length, but this did not seem to make a difference. Is Clementine processing the entire file from the current position to the end, even when the buffer is small? I was wondering if something like the compression feature was processing the whole file (I have turned compression off), or the MP3 was being decompressed all at once. Any thoughts? PS Brilliant program. It is so much easier to use than the BBC website. to find and manage BBC pod-casts. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Clementine Music Player" group.
