sudo is allows one (who has permission) execute a command on behalf of
another user. By default superuser.
su allows one (with the right permissions) to log in as another user. By
default superuser

(remove the "'s for all commands below)
if on each pc at the command line (open a terminal window on each pc) and
enter the command "ls -la"

the out put will tell you the permissions, for owner group and world. It
will also tell the owner and group associated with the file.
rwxrwxrwx means read write execute for the owner group and world.

Again n the command line of each. type "whoami", this will tell you the
user it thinks you are. Lets say it shows you are bigtom.

Then type "id bigtom"
The first 2 items will be the uid and the gid of the user. I'm betting the
uid is different on each machine, even if the name is the same.

This may not be the issue...I'm guessing.

With all commands in Linux, at the command line type "man <command you want
info for>" to get details.
