I have now tried VLC media player in Peppermint 10. In the "Command:" box I
can enter vlc cdda://cdrom which will cause vlc to open automatically when
I insert an audio CD. VLC then starts playing track 1 automatically.

Initially I was not getting the track data displayed by VLC - artist,
title, etc. I found I could fix that by going to Tools - Preferences in
VLC. That gets the "Simple Preferences" by default. But at the bottom of
the window under "Show settings" I can select "All" to get a full list of
settings. Then expanding "Input / Codecs", and then expanding "Access
modules", and then selecting "Audio CD", I found that the CDDB server had
been set to freedb.videolan.org. So I changed that to freedb.freedb.org
(CDDB port remains at 80). Then, after restarting VLC, I now get the track
data.

So I am hoping that Clementine has similar settings - arguments I can put
after "Clementine" in the "Command:" box to make Clementine start and begin
playing the audio CD, plus some way to change the CDDB server to
freedb.freedb.org.
