The day after' vigil/civil disobedience action was thursday march 20 at 4pm at soldiers & sailors monument, public square. We will transform the Soldiers and Sailors Monument into a PEACE MONUMENT on Thursday, March 20th at 4 pm.
Our Message: The messages we hope to communicate in the �Day After� action are: � Peacemaking is the only viable solution to this situation. � Soldiers� lives should not be put at risk when all other means have not been exhausted. � People�s lives are valuable, no matter where they live and who their leaders are. � Invasion of Iraq will increase hatred for America, increase terrorism and escalate violence. � We do not want any more names added to war memorials, anywhere. � Non-cooperation with war is honorable and necessary to stop the evil of war How You Can Help: We are actively seeking key people to participate in the following roles at the �Day After� action: Leafletters - Persons who distribute leaflets to inform and educate the public about the group�s action. Song Leaders - A couple of people prepared to lead the group in chants and/or songs. Photographer - Records the action on film or video; can be helpful with press follow-up. Press Contacts - One or two folks who proactively approach press people, offer them press packets, and direct them to press spokespersons. Support Staff � People who carry out specific support roles for those being arrested. Support persons cannot and should not be risking arrest to play their roles. Action participants - Individuals planning to engage in civil disobedience or otherwise risk arrest. Anyone interested in risking arrest must attend nonviolence training prior to the action. Legal Observer - Not a lawyer, necessarily, but individual(s) who watch for any violence or police brutality, to serve as reporters and witnesses if needed. Law students are encouraged to fill this role. Nonviolent Peacekeepers - Persons who know the action scenario and can help direct people in the appropriate activities and/or directions. On the �Day After�* the Bush administration escalates the war in Iraq, peace protestors will be gathering from 4 - 6 pm in Cleveland�s Public Square at the Soldiers and Sailors Monument We plan to nonviolently transform this monument into a Peace Monument by draping it in Origami Peace Cranes and Chains of Peace, and bandaging the wounded soldiers depicted there. This action is to symbolize our hopes for peace, the protection of soldiers from harm, and the need to avoid war that kills soldier and civilian alike. We Need Your Support!
