That naming scheme that was copied over from LFS doesn't work with all applications. Example tcpdump and iptraf will not recognize those names as valid interfaces, a lot of programs depend on the ethx naming scheme.
Well that's a pity. I really like having more specific names. I guess I'll get to see if that causes me any problems. Wireless cards and the like aren't likely to be ethx either (I think that madwifi goes for ath0), so it really seems like a bad idea to rely on that. Oh well, it's good to know anyway.
