Can anybody point me to an idiot's guide to what has changed in
gcc-4.2.0, please ? I was trying to look at PR31490 (it declines to
compile a 64-bit powerpc kernel with modules) - there is a patch in
gcc bugzilla which I was hoping to use, and to run the testsuite. It
doesn't actually apply (line offset of -219 makes at least our
version of patch reject it, so apparently it wasn't created against
the 4.2.0 tree), but it's easy enough to apply by hand and the
resulting kernel/modules seem to work.

Unfortunately, I have a bigger problem - any random program in
/tools (e.g. chroot, more, cat) aborts with SIGABRT and an 'Aborted'
message. Strace suggests this is in /tools/lib64/libc.so.6 but I'm
out of my depth here. This is trying to chroot from a February 2007
ppc64 build.

Or, perhaps I've omitted a changed instruction (a quick look at the
commits for -head didn't seem to show anything except new package
versions and new patches) ?
