 I've just fscked it - all fine.  There was nothing in my syslog,
but I've just started a long test run of smartctl.

 Ouch!  Particularly the 'running for 6 days' part.  I've got 1GiB
plus approx 2GB swap on this box.  Couldn't see anything in the logs
about OOM, but it's another possibility.
