Wish I knew. I haven't attempted x86_64 multilib with gcc-4.1, so
I don't have good logs to compare to. Probably, check that
everything binary installed in /cross-tools/lib is 32-bit, and
everything in /cross-tools/lib64 is 64-bit by using 'file' from the
host.
Before CLFS got under way, I can remember trying to follow what was
in Ryan's scripts for multilib, and hitting a similar dead-end with
gcc overwriting part of itself. So, you probably should also check
that the object files in /cross-tools/lib/gcc/${your_platform}/4.1.0
are 64-bit, and that there is a 32/ subdirectory which contains
32-bit objects.
