I make no guarantees that it won't break your setup, but I rebuilt glibc and reinstalled without a problem (I also rebuilt my kernel and rebooted just in case). and have been using Samba (and glibc patched) in a Pure64 build just fine since. If you're too worried about breaking something by rebuilding glibc, you have the option of just pointing samba to your 32bit libraries in a multilib, but where's the fun in that? :-)
