Alan, I think you need to tell ./configure where your patched kernel sources are. It looks like ./configure was not able to find the kernel sources on its own, so didn't even try to build a Linux version. Supply a --with-linux=LINUX_BUILD_DIRECTORY argument, such as --with-linux=/lib/modules/VERSION/build
