Dear Climate-L Reader, The London Climate Change Services group (LCCS) (www.londonclimatechange.com) invites you to its official side event at CoP11/MoP1 in Montreal: The Emerging Climate Change Services Sector: A New Business Constituency at 6pm until 7.30pm on Wednesday 7th December in the Ottawa River Room (3) in the Palais des Congrès de Montréal.
The event will be opened by the UK Environment Minister, The Rt. Hon Elliot Morley M.P. who will address why the UK Government sees the emergence of a strong climate change services & financial sector as critical to the achievement of the UKs climate change objectives. The event is being supported by Baker & McKenzie, Climate Change Capital Ltd and White & Case. Climate change policy in the UK has given birth to a new climate change services business sector, which has formed LCCS to make the business case for the effective implementation of market based climate change policies and measures. The side event will showcase this new and successful business community which may serve as a model for others around the globe. The event will look at how this sector has begun too influence the policy and business debate and why this sector is critical to the effective implementation of the Kyoto Protocol and the achievement of its emission reduction objectives. Pedro Moura De Costa, Ecosecurities – looking at why the UK and London is becoming such a key financial centre in the emerging global carbon market and why the London financial community better understands the need for providing capital to this new industry; 7. Louis Redshaw, Barclays Capital – the view from a major financial institution in London on the emerging carbon markets and London’s place in this new market.
