Real Carbon, Real People:
Opportunities, Multiple-Benefits, & Constraints in Land Use, Land-Use Change
and Forestry (LULUCF) Projects

This side event will discuss the potentials and constraints of LULUCF for
mitigating climate change, improving livelihoods and facilitating ecosystem
restoration.
Beatrice Ahimbisibwe. Mother, Widow, School Teacher, Carbon Grower.
Beatrice is growing trees and sequestering carbon in southwestern Uganda. She
will discuss her experience in a replanting project co-managed by Edinburgh
Centre for Carbon Management (ECCM) and Ecotrust, a Ugandan NGO.
Ole Petenya Yusuf- Shani, Shompole Community Trust, Kenya
Ole will discuss his experiences in the Masai tribe of Africa with
community-based ecosystem management and challenges of integrating community
goals with international payments.
John-O Niles, Climate, Community & Biodiversity Alliance manager.
John-O will explain the value of using the CCB Standards for guiding the
development of multiple-benefit LULUCF projects. Opportunities and obstacles
will be discussed, using case studies from around the world. Financial and
risk-management advantages to multiple-benefit LULUCF projects will be
demonstrated.
Benoit Bosquet, The World Bank’s BioCarbon Fund Manager.
Benoit will discuss the experience of the BioCarbon Fund with developing
forestry projects. He will discuss various constraints on developing land-use,
land use change and forestry projects in the carbon market.
