You can 'sudo su -', if you like.
Or, you can use cloud-init to disable the creation of the fedora

I found that stuff confusing - cloud-init (it seems to be an Ubuntu
thing? is it used from the AWS console somehow?) seems to only be useful
when creating the instance? Can something be done for an existing
instance?
