Am I forced to use sudo all the time? Is it possible to "su -" somehow?

You can 'sudo su -', if you like.

Or, you can use cloud-init to disable the creation of the fedora account and leave the root account active. Here's a previous message on this topic, with
instructions:

I found that stuff confusing - cloud-init (it seems to be an Ubuntu thing? is it used from the AWS console somehow?) seems to only be useful when creating the instance? Can something be done for an existing instance?

Thanks,

Phil.
