Yes, so on your local repo, you still have the remote branch reference or 
branch which was tracking the remote branch or the old git fetched info.
If you do: git remote show origin it will show you remote branches which are 
stale i.e. no longer on remote git repo, you can remove them using: git remote 
prune origin

Now git branch -r won't show them.
