Our first stop was a detour out to Astoria for a quick visit with Bob Hauke and friends who were excited to take a look at Bob’s future boat. Bob lives on a houseboat on an off-shoot of the Columbia River which is ideal for rowing. <http://whitehallrow.com/number/images/view/315> As we headed South we encountered a little snow on Highway 26 but soon found ourselves in Portland and cruised as far as Roseberg for the night. <http://whitehallrow.com/number/images/view/314> Two days later we were at the San Diego Convention Center where Wilf had already arrived with a trailer load of boats and we set up our display. <http://whitehallrow.com/number/images/view/312> The tanbark sails on the Whitehall Spirit 14 really drew a crowd along with the Whitehall Spirit 17 double slide a four Solo 14’s. We met hundreds of people and left the show with four more Solo 14 owners in the San Diego area and many more lining up for Spring deliveries. Rowing and sailing are definitely two things San Diegans really enjoy. We visited with Michael Vlassis, a longtime owner who lives over in Coronado Cays. He is only a few blocks away from a recent owner, Jeff Covill, who keeps his Tyee Spirit 14 sailing model on the swim grid of his Tiara as shown in the photos. <http://whitehallrow.com/number/images/view/313> <http://whitehallrow.com/number/images/view/316> This area offers sheltered water and a climate that’s ideal for enjoying rowing, fishing, slide seat rowing or sailing and we were pleased to find several potential dealers here. Next we’re off to the Chicago Boat Show (Jan 16 –20) Booth #6016 followed directly by the Seattle Boat Show at Booth #1923 in the East Hall. We hope to see you there.
