As many of you probably know by now, I am generally more business
oriented. I see great opportunities for Linux in the corporate
world. This will not happen overnight, but it is indeed happening much
more quickly than I ever thought, from just 12 months ago. I think you
will all be quite pleasantly surprised at what myself and my more technical
partners (over 50 years in enterprise solutions), will be soon ready to
offer in the way of our MicroServers, combined with our technical solutions
applying Linux. (more on this soon). Some of you may know our technical
people are located in Asia and it is headed by my partner who has 25 years
computer industry experience. I would like to see the Calgary community
take advantage of our upcoming offerings. I believe there will be many
business opportunities in the Calgary area alone and people with Linux
expertise will surely benefit.

I propose CLUG members keep more informed on the business
opportunities. Of course it is very important to keep right up to date on
the developing technology, but try to keep an eye on the market and market
drivers. Of late, there are more and more interesting news articles--I
have posted a few--perhaps we should have a section for Linux
Market/Business News. We all must think and watch what is going on
globally. I checked out Vancouver Linux. Did you know they report they
have 1000 members! Yet the population of the whole Lower Mainland is not
that much more than Calgary. I think it may be wise for us to look at
forming a alliance with the Vancouver group. How did they become so
large? What about forming some kind of closer alliance with Toronto,
Houston, Dallas? or overseas locations?

In any case, I think CLUG certainly has room to grow. Perhaps now is the
time to do some growth planning. Why not ride the wave?
